Overview
One of the most common migration mistakes is cancelling old hosting too early. Even if the new account is ready, the old service should usually remain active until the new website and DNS changes are fully confirmed.
Why This Matters
- DNS changes take time
- Some files or settings may still need to be checked
- Mail routing may depend on records that are still being adjusted
- A rollback is much easier when the old service still exists
When It Is Safer to Cancel
Only after the new site is tested, the domain is resolving correctly, and any business critical functions like forms and email are confirmed working.
Good Rule of Thumb
Do not rush the final cancellation step on a live website.
