Overview
Pointing your domain means updating the DNS settings at your domain registrar so that visitors reach your hosting account. This is one of the most common steps after purchasing hosting.
Two Common Ways to Point a Domain
- Update the domain nameservers to the nameservers provided with your hosting account
- Keep your current DNS provider and update the A record and related records manually
How to Find the Correct Details
Log in to your client area and review your hosting service details. The correct nameservers or server IP information should be listed there or in your welcome email.
Important Notes
- DNS changes are not always instant and can take time to spread
- If you use email with the domain, do not forget to keep or update mail related records
- Cloudflare users should make changes inside Cloudflare rather than directly at the registrar if Cloudflare is active
When to Ask for Help
If you are unsure whether to use nameservers or manual DNS records, open a support ticket before changing anything. This is especially important if your domain currently handles website traffic, email, or other services.
